Regulation of Transcription in Human Cells:  Complexities and Challenges

Robert G. Roeder, Ph.D.
Dickson Prize Lecturer

Robert G. Roeder, Ph.D., is Arnold and Mabel Beckman professor and head, Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, at the Rockefeller University.  During his distinguished career, Dr. Roeder discovered the complex molecular structures of mammalian RNA polymerases and many proteins that regulate their activity.  His seminal contributions have revealed fundamental biochemical mechanisms that control changes in gene expression, the process that underlies cell determination and differentiation, regulated cell growth, tissue formation, and homeostasis.
